The Gallery Wall {adding art}

I am in the process of trying to pick a piece of art for our main frame. It will be large and in turn will demand the most attention. Of course I am going to go with one our images. This is where we will meet clients and displaying your own work is never a bad thing. Once I pick the big frame image then I think it will be easier to see what other images and art pieces to add to the smaller frames. I did quite a few mock ups of some contenders that I have compiled.

This is from Miami. I literally shot it out the window of the car as we drove by. I adore the lines, palette, and the greenery makes me swoon.

This one, also from Miami, has a lot going on. I think it makes you want to look closer at it. It's hard to tell here, but it's a barge being pulled by a tugboat under a draw bridge. It is the same image frome here. Plus I think KJ would adore it.

I believe this one was snapped in Key West. They have wild chickens roaming around and we got quite the kick out it. I like how simple it is and somewhat quirky. Plus it makes me laugh. It may be a little odd for potential wedding clients though.

The last three images are from Colorado. They were originally what I thought I wanted in here before we even occupied the house. The colors are vibrant without being over the top.

I do love this one. I also wonder if this would be most captivating for a wedding client. It is a chapel after all.

Finally the elk in the camp site makes me quite happy. I think it is because it reminds of the adventure of the day and once this large beast headed our way the kiddos promptly hid under the picnic table. I was frozen with admiration and could not stop shooting his magnificence. I think regardless he will make it into our house somewhere.

The two I am leaning towards most are the first Miami photo and the chapel. Something about the colors and the way they work into the palette of the room. Have any favorites?

Multi functional

I have quickly learned with this new move we need pieces to be multi functional. Old homes don't come with many closets. The ones we do have are quite tiny. My first "huh" moment came when I realized there was not a spot for towels in either of the tiny baths. This also meant my hair dryer, flat iron, and makeup had no where to go never mind all our lotions, shaving creams, etc. The kids bath was an easy fix. They use the old hutch that was in our old dining room that now serves as a library in their hall. The cabinet beneath is a perfect spot for all their bath needs. In all honestly they use our bath more often than not anyway. It was that way in our old house too. As for the downstairs bath the most logical and only spot we had to use for storage is in the office. It is right outside the bath so it makes a quick detour easy. We then came across another problem. We had no where to put our many books. While out shopping with the Mr we came across this bookcase at West Elm. We both LOVED the style and the size was perfect. After opening up the cabinet we realized the shelving inside was just perfect to house all our bath needs. The shelves are large enough to put our books into double rows too. We are one step closer to getting this house done! Well, I still have hundreds of steps to go, but one is good for now.

 Here are a few more that could get the job done...

The Kids Bath

This bath was made for kids. It is petite in everyway. The Mr even has to duck in the door. This space has gone through some simple changes. The most apparent is that now it's clean! Ha. You can see the before here. We painted the walls talc by Martha Stewart just like the rest of the house. Took down the bath cabinet and I swear it makes this space feel 100% bigger. Changed out the mirror and light fixture. Added a simple roman from Home Depot for texture. The shower curtain was a bit of a splurge, but it was the feel I was wanting. Not too kiddie, but still fun in everyway without being too girlie or too boy oriented. The sign I had in the kids old bath. The stool and bath mat were Home Goods finds. The basket used to be in KJ's room but now serves as a laundry basket. The hooks are West Elm. Looking at this photo I guess the back wall could use a piece of art, but the door mostly stays open so maybe not. The only wish I have for this bath is that the floors were not white tile. They are slippery when wet and show EVERYTHING. It's a constant battle trying to make it look clean.Besides that I am quite pleased with the way it turned out!
