A Simple DIY & Another Home Depot Challenge

Today I am over on the Home Depot Apron blogsharing my next challenge, DIY outdoor games! I must say this challenge was REALLY quite the challenge since when we shot the DIY we were still living out of suitcases, hopping house to house. Our old home flooded and our new home was not ready for us. It was fun none the less and I am sure our game will bring us joy and sweet memories years to come. One of the biggest challenges though was not having any of my "styling" goodies with me. Everything was packed away and some stuff ruined. I knew the game itself needed "more" for the photographs. Yes, we did have a fun get together, but let's be honest the pictures need to look good too. HA. That is where a simple and inexpensive DIY picnic blanket came into play.

I bought a 5x5 dropcloth from Home Depot and picked Martha Stewart Terra Rosa as my stripe color. The best part of using the drop cloth is that it is lightly lined with plastic on the underside so as in this case dew can not seep through.

We used a small roller to first make the stripes. I used the fold lines as a guide. KJ then followed with a foam brush to fill in the missed spots. I did not want the stripes to be perfect, but to mimic one of my long time favorite tablecloths that is way out of budget.

So simple really, but we have used it often since the original shoot.

Hope you will visit my Home Depot challenge! It was tons of fun.

Kind of Fun

Was pretty excited when one of my sisters came across this! Two Ellie on Apartment Therapy... kind of fun, right? Still have to say the fall style challenge with Home Depot is still one of my favorites to have been a part of. Oh, and don't you just love the commenter's on AT. They are such a rough group, but this time around I will let it just roll. Ha. The last time I believe I cried and almost gave up blogging. Of course that was at least 4/5 years ago so my skin has grown a tad thicker since then and YES it was worthy of a ripping a part, but at the time... Want to see my all time embarrassment? Can't believe I am showing this again, but here you go and laugh away. Let's just say I didn't quite have the execution down, funds to do it right, or had yet found "my style". It's that BAD people. Here it is today in my new home tour tab at the top {thanks to a reader for the request}. Just way way messier. Didn't want you to think I am that bad anymore! Ha.

When the most fabulous ladies from Home Depot ask if you want to do another Style Challenge it's hard to pass up. This time around it was for Halloween, to be honest we aren't big on the holiday so instead we made ours into more of a harvest theme. Celebrating fall is something I am 100% behind. It is my favorite sesons afterall. These are a few out takes from the day. The best part it forced me to think outside the box and of course, have a fun party with the family. The only down fall is during shoot time is was ridiculously HOT. HA. I must say though I am quite proud with the way this one turned out. It's been awhile since I have done a DIY and this one still makes me giddy. I also shared a few entertaining tips that serve me well. Hope you will go take a gander...
